Jimmy Ellison, Police Chief at Abilene Christian University, will present tips and suggestions for preparing for and preventing workplace violence. The discussion will include the responsibility HR has to their employees to educate and prepare for the possibility of workplace violence as well as practical steps to take to prevent violence. From hiring practices to policies and plans, HR is in the midst of this hot topic and can be the catalyst for change.
Jimmy Ellison has served as a police officer over 34 years, serving 17 years with the Beaumont TX Police Department 1984-2001 in various roles ranging from Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Patrol Shift Sergeant, Hostage Negotiator, and Narcotics/Vice Unit Supervisory Sergeant before accepting the position of Chief of Police at the ACU Police Department in 2001. Chief Ellison has served as Chief of Police at ACUPD for 17 years, overseeing a 24/7 full service police department of 16 sworn officers and assorted civilian staff. The ACUPD serves the ACU campus as well as the surrounding northeast Abilene areas in conjunction with the Abilene PD through an annual agreement between both police departments.
