MISSION STATEMENT

The Big Country SHRM’s mission is to promote professionalism, effectiveness, and understanding in the Human Resource Management field by offering members a wide variety of professional development opportunities and a common forum for sharing ideas and experiences. 

HISTORY

The Big Country SHRM originally organized as the Big Country Personnel Management Association.  In 1995 it received its certificate of incorporation from the Secretary of State of the Great State of Texas as the Big Country Society for Human Resource Management.  Big Country SHRM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. 

 OBJECTIVES  

  • Provide a wide range of educational programming and activities that allow members to develop their expertise in the functional areas of Human Resource Management;
  • Foster increased awareness and understanding of the Human Resource profession throughout the business community and the general public;
  • Encourage the highest standards of integrity through our Code of Ethics; and
  • Provide a regular forum for members to meet and exchange information in addressing current human resource issues.

 

CODE OF ETHICS


As members of the Big Country SHRM, we agree to adhere to this Code of Ethics, recognizing that in doing so we will further the Chapter's mission of promoting professionalism, effectiveness, and understanding in the field of Human Resource Management. We adopt and maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and pledge to:

 

  • Endeavor to make our employer or client successful through encouraging and practicing effective Human Resource Management practices;
  • Support the Chapter’s objectives for furthering the Human Resource Management profession;
  • Be proactive and committed in our efforts toward lifelong learning, professional growth and development;
  • Refrain from using our membership in the Chapter to solicit business or secure special privileges;
  • Encourage our employer or client to make fair and equitable treatment of all employees a primary concern and facilitate the establishment of a representative and diverse workforce;
  • Instill in employees and the general public a sense of confidence regarding the conduct and intentions of our employer or client;
  • Maintain loyalty to our employer or client and pursue their objectives in ways that are consistent with professional integrity;
  • Provide objective, informed human resource advice and counsel to our employer or client;
  • Practice tolerance and respect for others in the daily fulfillment of our responsibilities;
  • Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information; and
  • Improve general awareness regarding the role and importance of Human Resource Management’s contributions to organizational success.

We are an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management based out of Abilene, Texas. We support the entire Big Country and surround areas as well.

Whether you are new to the HR field or have many years of experience, we are a local source for networking, information, professional development and continued support of excellence in Human Resources Profession.
